Dispute Management

Updated

Dispute Management is the Vendor Central surface where a first-party (1P) vendor contests deductions, one claim at a time. The route is Payments, then Dispute Management, then create a dispute; a per-line dispute action also exists under Payments, then Invoices. The surface is still live in 2026 for disputes and re-disputes, and an older email route for opening cases was discontinued. Follow the route rather than a button name.

The surface is shared; the rules are not. Each deduction type keeps its own window and its own evidence, so a dispute filed here still has to meet the clock for its type. Bundling is restricted too. Settlement creation, the route that bundled many shortages into one case, is limited: without an assigned vendor manager or an Amazon settlement offer, each shortage is disputed individually.

What are the rules for each deduction type?

Each type has its own clock and its own rule for re-disputes.

  • Shortage claim and price claim: within 2 years of the invoice date; plan on one re-dispute after a denial, since no limit on attempts has been established.
  • Compliance chargeback: two dispute attempts. The first is due within about 30 days, counted from the date on the chargeback record; a refusal opens one more 30-day window. Chargebacks are found under Reports, then Operational Performance, and the dispute is filed from there or from the Dispute Management tab, depending on your account's current layout. Do not plan on a third step after a second refusal.
  • Co-op: disputed here or from Payments, then Co-op, with the backup report, the line-item detail behind a co-op invoice, as the evidence where one exists. The window for co-op disputes is not publicly settled: it is commonly described as around two years, but some specialist sources apply the 30-day chargeback clock to co-op, so file anything current inside 30 days until your own Vendor Central record shows the window.

Vendor Central deduction recovery runs through this surface claim by claim, which is why each claim's type, window and evidence have to be settled before it is filed.
